Assalamualaikum to all readers. In our second entry we will write about a figure's personality that we admire. We admire Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad because he plays an important role in the development of Malaysia. Not only he has great leadership skills but he also has an amazing personality. Tun Dr.Mahathir Mohammad is an intelligent, futuristic, and a hard working person.
Tun Dr.Mahathir is an intelligent person. He received his early education in his hometown. In 1947, he gained admission to the king Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore. He won many awards from various universities in Malaysia. For Example, he won the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Goverment and Political Science (UiTM) ,the Honorary Doctor of Philsophy in leadership and Humanity Development (UPSI, Perak) awards in 2004. He also won the Anugerah Minda Agung (Malaysian invention and design society MINDS) and the Certificate of Excellence ( Multimedia University) awards in 2006.
Tun Dr. Mahathir is also a hard working person. He had worked hard and had been in a lot of hardships to develop Malaysia. A lot of people would agree that the man made a profound, indelible mark on the nation and even in the International Stage. Below are his greatest achievement due to his hard work.
-Economic modernization and liberization.
Malaysia might not be as developed as the west, but during Dr. Tun Mahathir's tenure, Malaysia had showed an impressive leap into a modern economy based on manufacturing and services. Malaysia remains as the envy of Southeast Asia perhaps second only to First World, Singapore.
- Navigating the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
1997 was a tumultuous period for many Asian nations. Tun Dr. Mahathir ignored wisdom advice from the IMF( International Monetary Fund) taking unconventional path for the nation. However, Malaysia emerged relatively unscathed and critics, like the IMF and The World Bank, acknowledged that his approach worked.
-The Education System
Tun Dr. Mahathir developed Malaysia's education system by introducing PMR(SRP) and SPM. He basically remains as the nation;s headmaster because of his profound impact on the national syllabus.
- Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)
The MSC was an ambitious project aimed at propelling Malaysia into a digital age. Most Malaysians complain about the slow internet connection but we're light years ahead of most Third Worlds.
-Petronas Twin Tower
Malaysia has more architectural wonders than the Petronas Twin Towers but it managed to embodying the face of Malaysia to International stage.
Tun Dr. Mahathir is a futuristic person. If he hadn't been a futuristic person, Malaysia would not be as develop as it is today. It is his futuristic vision that saw Malaysia has the potential to become a modern country.
Before I finish this entry, I would like to congratulate Tun Dr.Mahathir on his International Award.
The Human Nations Human Settlements program, also known as the UN-Habitat, issued a press conference on June 29 announcing that Dr. Mahathir has been named as the recipient of the 2012 award after a selection process involving nominees from all over the world. The award is given to individuals, organisations and institutions anywhere in the world for significant accomplishments in the areas of leadership, statesmenship and good governance. Congratulations!
As a conclusion I admire Tun Dr.Mahathir's personality because he is an intelligent, hard working and futuristic person. His achievements in developing Malaysia has made many Malaysians proud.
Assalamualaikum to all readers, this is our English Blog Project. Our English teacher, Sir Rahim told us to create a blog and post entries in English. He said that this project can help us with our English skills. We are very excited to do this project. Our first entry is about buildings. We have decided to write an entry about the Habitat 67.
The Habitat 67 building is really amusing. It attracts people to see it. The Habitat 67 is a model community and a housing complex located at Montreal, Canada designed by an architect Moshie Safdie.
It was originally conceived as a thesis in architecture but was built as a pavilion for Expo 67, the World's Fair at 1967. Then, the Habitat 67 became famous that it was invaded by thousands of visitors from all around the glob and managed to come on top for being the temporary residence for people passing by Montreal.
Habitat 67 compromises of 354 identical prefabricated concrete forms arranged in various combinations reaching up to 12 stories in height. Each unit is connected to at least one private terrace, which can range from 225 to 1000 square feet in size. It was originally designed to provide the benefits of suburban homes with the economics and density of a modern apartment. Safdie's goal for to project to be affordable housing largely failed because demands for the building units had increase making them more expensive.
In March 2012, Habitat 67 had won an online 'Lego Architecture" poll and is a candidate to be added to a list of famous buildings that inspire a special replica Lego set. Lego blocks were actually used in the initial plannimg for Habitat.
Habitat 67 gained world-wide acclaim as a 'fantastic experiment and 'architectural wonder'.The Habitat 67 was a success and failure. The Habitat was a success because it redefined urban living and was failure because it failed to achieve Safdie's goal to make it an affordable housing project. However, Habitat 67's fame has help Safdie's reputation and help launched his career.
Even after 45 years after its creation, The Habitat still shines with brightness. It is without a doubt a fascinating architectural wonder and was materialized by becoming a popular success as well as a 'prestigious address'. Its intrinsic genius is praised by both architectural and the urban planning circles, by the public and the residents.
This is a little information about the Habitat 67. It is a really fascinating building, I am sorry for the lack of information. I hope that you enjoyed reading this entry. ^^
